Ditmas Park Passive House #2

This project transforms a historic freestanding Colonial Revival home in Ditmas Park into a thoughtfully designed multigenerational residence. Built in 1928 and largely untouched since, the home is undergoing a meticulous restoration of its facade and a complete interior transformation. The design respects the home’s historic character while introducing modern updates, including a contemporary rear addition. The goal is to create two distinct, functional apartments, each with its own unique interior design tailored to its occupants.

The second-floor apartment brings a fresh, mid-century modern sensibility to the home, blending warm wood tones, playful colors, and clean lines with subtle nods to its historic roots. The spacious primary suite anchors the main level of the historic house, while the addition houses an open kitchen, dining, and living area that creates an ideal space for entertaining, complete with access to a terrace designed to extend seamlessly from the kitchen. Upstairs in the attic, two additional bedrooms provide flexible spaces for guests and future needs, along with a newly added bathroom. Designed to feel youthful, bright, and inviting, this apartment balances modern energy with timeless character.
